Celler Thrift

After being a part of a successful group in Hawaii who started a thrift shop, a member of the First Congregational Church in Berkeley started the Cellar Thrift Shop. This thrift store is run completely by volunteers out of a room in the church building that used to store neglected art supplies. The items for sale are donated (mostly by fellow church members), and all the profits are given to charitable and other non-profit organizations. According to volunteers, sales render approximately $800 per week—the Cellar Thrift Shop is open 50 weeks out of the year.
