As Anna prepared a beautiful meal for us in her home she explained how she lost the soda, and started the farm. Upon arrival she and her son (then thirteen) spent three months moving earth by hand in order to construct her home (built into the side of a hillside). Apparently, no one (including her neighbors and her father) would lend her a wheel barrow. They then spent nine months hauling water (by hand) before completing the two ponds and a well that is on her property.

Anna now earns her living by selling organic produce at the farmer's market, primarily to "gringos" in a town where the price of land is going up as more and more affluent immigrants flock to Nosara, attracted to the ocean views and developing country prices.

If you would like to visit Anna's farm to volunteer, or perhaps stop by for a meal, contact Deborah (debratomATaol.com). Deborah is a friend of Anna's and has offered to make arrangements with Anna, as Anna does not have internet access in her home.
